Birth and Early Life
Wycliffe Matuli was born to the late Jeremiah Matulu and the late Agnes Ambiyo on 10th October, 1971 at Eshinyulu village, Kakamega county. Wycliffe grew up alongside his brothers Festus Barasa and the late Charles Nyongesa, and his sister Beatrice Makungu. He started his early life in the Christian faith, where he was baptized at ACK Holy Trinity Church Shikulu as a young boy, with the guidance of his local godparents. In his early life, Wycliffe was known for his sharp mind, a deep love for mathematics, and an active interest in playing football with his peers in the village.
Education
He began his schooling at Shinyulu Primary School in 1977, where he sat for his primary school leaving examinations in 1983. He later advanced to Butere High School for his secondary education from 1984 to 1987, where he excelled remarkably in commercial studies and mathematics. Driven by a passion for numbers, he proceeded to the Kenya Christian Industrial Training Institute (KCITI) in Nairobi, where he graduated with a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification. He later completed his advanced accounting diplomas and auditing certifications through professional development courses over the years.
Professional Career
Wycliffe worked with a number of corporate firms and public institutions in Nairobi as a corporate accountant, earning a reputation for his impeccable integrity and precision. He later transitioned into senior management, serving as a chief internal auditor for several large firms before choosing to venture into private practice. He founded his own accounting and audit firm, Wiggle Accounts Ltd, serving small businesses and institutions across the region. Alongside his consultancy, Wycliffe was an ardent modern farmer, passionately managing his sugarcane and dairy investments at his farm in Eshinyulu.
Marriage
Wycliffe was married to his beloved wife Mary Khaendi. Together, they were blessed with a beautiful family and were the proud parents of three children: Brian Simiyu, Dorcas Mutuli, and Kevin Wafula, whom they raised with strong Christian values.
Religious Life
Wycliffe adhered to his Christian vows to the letter throughout his life. While he spent his working years attending church in Nairobi, his heart remained firmly rooted in his local church back home. Upon returning to Kakamega, he became deeply involved at ACK Holy Trinity Church Shikulu. He was a dedicated and highly trusted member of the congregation, and his financial expertise led to his appointment as the Church Treasurer. He served honorably in this role, safeguarding the church's resources and advising on development projects until his health began to fail.
Health and Final Lap
Throughout his life, Wycliffe was robust, energetic, and rarely complained of illness. However, in early 2023, he developed a persistent, dry cough accompanied by unexpected chest pains and shortness of breath. Initially treating it as a common chest infection, he sought medical attention at a local clinic in Kakamega. When the symptoms refused to subside, his family prompted him to see a specialist. In June 2023, following extensive scans and biopsies at the Kakamega County Referral Hospital, Wycliffe was diagnosed with advanced lung cancer. The diagnosis forced him into an early retirement, prompting him to hand over the active management of Wiggle Accounts Ltd to his associates. He started aggressive chemotherapy and palliative management. By mid-2026, his health condition deteriorated significantly as the illness spread. He was admitted to Butere Hospital for specialized management, but the doctors noted that the condition had grown severe. He spent his final weeks under the peaceful, dedicated care of his wife Mary and his children at his family home. He peacefully went to be with the Lord on 19th October 2026 at 11:00 AM. His body was moved to Butere Mortuary. Fare thee well Wycliffe. You fought the good fight, you have finished the race, you have kept the faith. Till we meet again at the Lordโs feet.
