Biography of the late Muthoni

Birth and Early Life

Jane Wangui Muthoni was born on 14th June, 1999, in the peaceful town of Karatina, Nyeri County. She was the cherished daughter of Mwalimu Jason Kamau and Mama Jackline Muthoni. Raised in a home grounded in Christian values, humility, and academic excellence, Jane brought immense warmth and light to her family from an early age. She grew up alongside her siblingsโ€”Nduta Kamau, Peter Kamau, Japheth Wangui, and Lilian Ndutaaโ€”with whom she shared a deep, unbreakable bond. Known for her gentle nature, bright smile, and natural empathy, Jane was often the peacemaker and a source of joy among her peers in Karatina.

Education and Training

Janeโ€™s educational journey was marked by diligence and a constant drive to serve others:

Primary Education: She began her schooling at Karatina Primary School in 2006, where her intelligence and leadership abilities quickly became evident. She sat for her Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) in 2013, scoring exemplary marks that earned her admission to high school.

Secondary Education: She attended Bishop Gatimu Ngandu Girlsโ€™ High School from 2014 to 2017. During her time there, she excelled in the biological sciences and active extracurriculars, including the Christian Union and the Red Cross Club, where her passion for healthcare was first ignited.

Tertiary & Professional Studies: Driven by a clear calling to medical service, Jane enrolled at the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) โ€“ Nyeri Campus in 2018 to pursue a Diploma in Registered Nursing. She completed her clinical rotations with distinction, earning her professional licensure as a Registered Nurse from the Nursing Council of Kenya in 2022.

Professional Career & A Calling to Care

Upon completing her training, Jane was posted to Kerugoya County Referral Hospital, where she served diligently in the general wards and maternal care unit. Nursing was never just an occupation for Janeโ€”it was her personal ministry. Her work was defined by profound compassion, patience, and absolute dedication to the well-being of her patients. She possessed a rare ability to reassure frightened families and comfort those in pain during their most vulnerable moments. Colleagues and hospital staff revered her for her work ethic, punctual nature, and warm camaraderie in the wards.

Beyond her daily duties, Jane continuously sought self-improvement, participating in specialized workshops on emergency care, patient advocacy, and community health sensitization across Kirinyaga and Nyeri counties.

Faith and Religious Life

Jane was baptized as an infant and confirmed in the Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) Diocese of Mt. Kenya West. She was an active member of the youth ministry and choir during her stay in Karatina, regularly dedicating her weekends to church activities and community outreach programs. Her life was a living testament to her Christian faithโ€”marked by charity, kindness, and selflessness.

A Life Cut Short

On 19th October 2026, Janeโ€™s life was tragically cut short in a sudden road traffic accident while in the line of duty, leaving her family, colleagues, and community mourning a future that held so much promise. At just 26 years of age, she was embarking on the brightest chapters of her personal and professional life, with plans to pursue higher studies in specialized critical care nursing. Though her time on earth was brief, the depth of her impact on the lives she saved and the hearts she touched remains profound.

Funeral Arrangements & Final Rites

Jane's body currently lies at the Kerugoya Hospital Mortuary. Family, friends, and colleagues are gathering daily for prayers and funeral planning meetings at her parents' family home in Karatina, Nyeri County, starting at 4:00 PM.

The cortege will leave Kerugoya Hospital Mortuary on Wednesday, 5th November 2026 at 8:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at ACK St. Peter's Church, Karatina, starting at 10:00 AM. Subsequent burial will take place at the family home in Karatina, Nyeri County.

A Lasting Memory

Jane Wangui Muthoni will forever be remembered as a loving daughter, a protective sister, a reliable colleague, and a devoted nurse whose life mattered deeply to everyone around her.

โ€œYou fought a good fight, you finished your course, and you kept the faith.โ€
